The following information is from Suzanne LeBlanc, daughter-in-law of Timberwolf veteran Ora LaBlance from the 104th Division, 415th Regiment, Company I. Suzanne is hoping someone may recognize her father -in-law, or any of his Timberwolf buddies from the photos, and provide any additional information about Ora or anyone in the photos.
1. - Ora LeBlanc and his brother, Osa from the 97th Quartermaster Corps, photographed at Cherborg, France.
2. - Timberwolf Buddies - Platoon from Company I?-(best guess anyhow!)
3. - 415th Regiment, Company I in front.
4. - Interesting story from a Lake Charles, Louisiana newspaper (dated Sept. 4, 1994) about several WWII men, including Ora LeBlanc.
*08/18/04 - "Robert,I have attached the four pictures I have. I am Ora's daughter-in-law. The first picture is the clearest. Ora is in the front row on the left. His wife, (my mother-in-law), Eva, says this picture is his regiment, the 415th. Does that look right to you? The next picture of the small group I am not sure about as I don't really understand all the division, regiment, company stuff. It is not as clear, and if you don't want to post it that is fine. The third picture is our favorite. It is a picture taken of Ora when his brother, Osa, met up with him in Cherbourg. The fourth image is of the newspaper article in the Lake Charles American Press from Sep. 4, 1994 describing when they met up with each other along with Ora's Purple Heart information.
I also have some new information for the web-site. Eva has said that 'There was a group who were going to exchange captured officers with the Germans. When they were about to do this, an extra group of Germans came up and didn't know what was going on and took our guys prisoners - except one. The one was Ora. He has said he ran away and hid in a building until later, then went back to his ________ and told them what happened.' Eva says this story is well known, and she has heard it told at reunions or in newletters or something, but they never include the fact that it was Ora who got away. She also said that his purple heart info was from schrapnel in the hand holding his rifle and schrapnel in his face. The rifle partially protected his hand. The schrapnel in his face caused permanent loss of hearing. He was sent to the hospital in Paris and then went back to the front lines with his arm in a sling.
I can't tell you how much we appreciate you and this web-site. Ora was so proud to see it and show it to his grandchildren. My kids have already used it several times for Veteran's Day projects. If there is anything else you need to know, just email me.
Thank you,Suzanne LeBlanc"
