General Terry de la Mesa Allen was born on 4/1/1888 in Fort Douglas, Utah.  He was given the nickname "Terrible Terry" when he commanded the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) under General George Patton during the landings at North Africa and later into Sicily.  He returned to the States after Sicily, and eventually formed a new division, the 104th (Timberwolf) Division.  He was the only U.S. general in W.W. II to train and command two separate infantry divisions.

The following photos and exerpt from "The Mightiest Army" by Col. Karl Detzer, are of Maj. Gen Terry Allen, and Brig. Gen. "Teddy" Roosevelt (son of President Teddy Roosevelt),  when they served together with "The Big Red One", or First Division at the Invasion of Sicily.

* Major General Terry Allen had only child, Terry Allen Junior.  Ironically, Lt. Col. Terry Allen Jr. was killed in action on October 17, 1967 while serving as a Field Commander in Viet Nam with his father's old unit, the First Infantry Division (The Big Red One.)  He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
